"Art is my gratitude for the stars"
Guzik
My beloved husband, Richard Schmid, Master Painter and Author, whose love and light continue to shine upon me from the stars.
about Nancy
After graduating from the American Academy of Art in Chicago, Nancy Guzik continued her studies at the Palette & Chisel Academy of Fine Arts and later at the Lyme Academy of Fine Arts in Connecticut, where she studied anatomy and sculpture with the late Dean Keller.
It was at the Palette & Chisel that Nancy met master painter and author Richard Schmid, who became her mentor and later her husband. Richard nurtured her innate talents, opening the door to the Grand Manner of painting, which he described as “a certain mingling of virtuosity and unrestrained joy in Art.”
Nancy is widely recognized for her mastery, sensitivity, and originality in painting still lifes and people. When asked why she especially loves painting children from life, Nancy smiles: “There is something that all children are born with that I connect with. As my painting begins to unfold, the child and I are drawn together into a magical process of creativity. Meeting on this creative level, we journey together into the realm of imagination—and into the world of art we go.”
Her paintings have been featured in noteworthy exhibitions, received prestigious awards, and found homes in private and public collections, captivating art lovers around the world. As one of the directors of the Putney Painters in Vermont, Nancy has also helped nurture and inspire generations of aspiring artists.
RICHARD SCHMID FINE ART FOUNDATION
Today, Nancy is honored to serve as President of the Foundation Richard established, working alongside an exceptional and deeply dedicated Board of Directors, united by a profound responsibility: to preserve Richard's artistic legacy, share his extraordinary knowledge, and carry forward his lifelong commitment to excellence, generosity, and the joy of creating art.
Together, they are devoted to ensuring that Richard's legacy remains a living source of inspiration—opening doors to artistic discovery, nurturing future generations, and honoring his belief that “Art Has the Power to Do Good.” Visit RichardSchmidFoundation.org
Surrounded by Richard's paintings, Nancy continues to find inspiration in his art, teachings, and enduring presence in her life. She lives in their New England home with their beloved cats, Max and Lulu, where each new painting brings a fresh sense of wonder, discovery, and gratitude.
