about THE EXHIBITION— The Magic of Cats
My journey painting cats began with Kiwi, a neighbor’s cat who wandered through my window and became a daily visitor. Eager to paint her, I set up my easel the night before, ready for her arrival. When Kiwi arrived, I captured her on my small 6 x 10-inch canvas! Each precious painting taught me to see and capture her more quickly.
On another visit, Kiwi sat perfectly still, mesmerized by a little bug. I had always wanted to try sculpting, so I grabbed my clay and tools and got to work. Magic again! And just two little Kiwis are left, ready for adoption!
Next came our black-and-white cat, Zorro. Sometimes I’d find him sleeping and quickly grab my paints. (Kiwi had taught me to be ready!) Other times, I’d arrange a cozy spot with just the right colors, and he would find his way into it. When Zorro settled into my still life setups, what else could I do but paint him in? Naturally, Zorro will be stealing the spotlight in our cat show!
This past February, I drew a cat from life every day and shared it on Instagram. Soon I was filming myself drawing, even attempting Max chasing his tail! (Luckily, I didn’t know that was impossible!) Then came little whimsical poems to accompany the drawings. Where did that come from? Who knew a simple drawing could open the door to so much magic?
As I prepared for November’s exhibition, another adventure began. My imagination took flight into a world where a child’s imagination brings cats to life and a winged girl sets off on an adventure with my Max and Lulu. Anything is possible!
It seems art always leads me somewhere new. One painting, one drawing, one idea opens the door to another. Like a cat jumping through an open window, sometimes inspiration arrives when we least expect it.
Curiosity may have brought you here, but there's more feline magic to discover! I'll be joined by three other artists, each bringing their own unique artistic vision and love of cats to this special exhibition. Visit my homepage for our exhibition invitation and all the meow-velous details. It promises to be a show full of inspiration, imagination, and a little mischief! We hope to see you there!
